The roster Indianapolis announced Sunday keeps Tyler Warren with the groin injury still on his file, per the Colts' website, while four tight ends left in one day — including Will Mallory, his fill-in, who went to injured reserve designated to return. No practice report named Warren all week.

Tyler Warren is on the initial 53, groin injury and all, per JJ Stankevitz at the Colts' website — and the room around him emptied. In Sunday's cutdown the Colts sent Will Mallory, the man who had been taking Warren's first-team snaps, to injured reserve designated to return, released Pharaoh Brown, and waived JJ Galbreath and Tyler Moore, per Stankevitz. Four tight ends gone in a day. Three remain: Warren, Mo Alie-Cox and Drew Ogletree.
What the week did not produce is the thing last week's episode said to watch: a practice return. No report in this window names Warren on the field, so whether he practiced before the finale is simply unanswered — the only hard fact is that the team kept him on the roster with the injury on file. One correction to our own record, though. Last week we said no timetable had been reported. One had, three days earlier: Ian Rapoport reported on August twentieth, via Myles Simmons at ProFootballTalk, that Warren was expected to miss about a week with a minor groin injury, with no concern at the time that he would be unavailable for Week One. That is dated reporting, not this week's news, but a one-week timetable from an August nineteenth injury lands him back well before Baltimore.
The other half of last week's watch line dissolved on its own. Warren being on the field for Daniel Jones's first game snaps stopped being a question when Jones was held out of the finale, per Stankevitz — so that connection, like everything else in this offense, got no game reps this summer.
The June read said Warren's season rests on the Jones connection — with Jones throwing last year, he produced like one of the best tight ends in football, and his rookie season came to 76 catches for 817 yards and four touchdowns, fifth among tight ends in receiving yards, our numbers — and nothing about a minor groin strain or a thinner depth chart changes who the first read is when both are on the field. What cut day changed is the shape of the room behind him, not the read. We'll check back on his practice status as the opener draws near.
