Warren caught six of seven targets for 21 yards and the game's first touchdown, one yard on second and goal with 8:28 left in the first quarter, and ran once for three yards to convert third and one. Five of his seven targets were thrown behind the line of scrimmage and none traveled more than a yard past it, in a 33–30 overtime loss to the Chiefs.

Nothing to nothing, eight 28 left in the first quarter, second and goal at the Kansas City one. Daniel Jones threw short middle to Tyler Warren for one yard and the touchdown, the first points of the night. +0.9 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position. The snap before, Jonathan Taylor had been stopped for nothing from the same spot. And eight plays earlier on the same drive, on third and one at the Indianapolis 44, Warren himself ran up the middle for three yards and the first down, with an extra lineman reported eligible, worth +0.7.
The line: seven targets, six catches, 21 yards, one touchdown, one receiving first down, which was the touchdown, and −0.1 expected points on the targets. One carry, three yards, one first down. The catches went one, three, eight, four, −2 seven. The depth of the throws is the story: the seven targets carried −13 air yards in total. Five of the seven were thrown behind the line of scrimmage, and the other two, the touchdown and the one incompletion, traveled one yard past it. 35 yards came after the catch, on catches that started behind the line. The seven-yarder was first and 10 at the Kansas City 12 with six 23 left in the fourth quarter, down 27 to 20, to the five, and Taylor tied the game on the next snap. The −2 was second and nine at the Kansas City 33 earlier on that same drive. The incompletion came on second and four at the Indianapolis 49 with 43 seconds left in regulation, tied at 27; the next throw also fell incomplete and the Colts punted. Three targets before halftime, four after. No third-down targets, the same as Week 1.
Seven targets were second on the Colts behind Josh Downs's nine, ahead of Keenan Allen's five and Taylor's four, on 30 credited targets, a share of 23 percent.
Back in June the preview's read on Warren was a rookie season that finished fifth among tight ends on the kind of volume and target role that tends to carry forward, with the best of it coming in the games Jones started. Week 1 was five targets, three catches, 13 yards and a nine-yard touchdown, and that episode said one game could not tell a shrinking role from a defense taking something away. Two games now say the same thing in the same shape: 12 targets, nine catches, 34 yards, two touchdowns from a combined 10 yards out. The count the preview cared about is there and growing. The depth is not: 23 air yards on five targets in Week 1, −13 on seven here. Two games settle little, but the pattern has not varied yet. Indianapolis is home to the Texans on Sunday the 20-seventh.
