CeeDee Lamb Camp Update — August 31: Three Veteran Receivers Cut Around Him
2026 NFL Season · Monday, Aug 31
Dallas made thirty-nine moves to reach fifty-three and released veteran receivers Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Tyler Johnson and Denzel Mims, while Lamb drew no reporting of any kind all week. The finale belonged to the backups, so the red-zone pecking-order question carries to Week One with nothing in it.

Cut day reshaped the receiver room around CeeDee Lamb without ever saying his name. Dallas made 39 moves to reach 53 on Sunday, per Nick Eatman at DallasCowboys.com, and three of the seven veterans released were receivers — Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Tyler Johnson and Denzel Mims. The receiver who did make news was an undrafted rookie: Camden Brown made the initial 53 as the sixth receiver after a preseason of six catches, a hundred 66 yards and two touchdowns, per Jerry Trotta at The Landry Hat — who adds in the same item that it will take an injury for Brown to see the field.
Friday's preseason finale, a 27 to 24 home loss to New Orleans, was a Joe Milton and Sam Howell affair, per Kurt Daniels at the team's website, and the receiving headlines went to Jordan Hudson — four catches, 97 yards and a touchdown — who was then waived and signed to the practice squad, per Trotta. No accessed account of the game places Lamb on the field, which fits Brian Schottenheimer's stated plan not to play many starters this preseason, per Grant Afseth at Dallas Sports Journal, though nothing reports him inactive either. So the question we flagged a week ago — any charted red-zone period saying who eats first when he and Pickens are on the field together — closes the preseason unanswered. No reporting we accessed charted the first-team target distribution at any point in camp.
The file on Lamb since June rests on two numbers from last season: a nine-targets-a-game workload, among the stickiest in football, and three touchdowns on a hundred 17 targets, a starvation rate history tends to un-write. A cutdown that thinned his room touches neither — the competition for targets got thinner, not different, and the two alphas' math is the same math. The next evidence is the real kind. We'll check back as Week One comes into focus.
