30 to 27, Texans, 43 seconds left, second and 10 at the Houston 12. Dak Prescott threw short over the middle to CeeDee Lamb for 12 yards and the touchdown that won it. +3.4 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and 29 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it, the biggest swing of the game. Earlier on that drive, with a minute 12 left, he had caught 15 yards on second and 10 to the Houston 46, +13 and a half points of win probability, and eight more to the 34.
The line: 21 targets, 17 catches, a hundred 89 yards, one touchdown, 11 first downs, +13.6 expected points on his targets. Six catches for 49 yards before halftime, 11 for a hundred 40 after. The fourth quarter opened with two of the biggest: 21 yards on second and 18 from the Houston 41, down 23 to 20, worth 12 points of win probability, and, two snaps later, 17 to the Houston three. Javonte Williams scored two snaps later. Five targets came on third down; three were caught for first downs, and the other two were an incompletion on third and 11 in the second quarter and a throw behind the line on third and one with two minutes left that lost three yards. Dallas converted the fourth and four that followed. His one carry, around left end in the second quarter, lost six.
21 targets were 47 percent of Prescott's 45 throws. Ryan Flournoy and Williams were next with five each, Jake Ferguson four, George Pickens three. Every other Cowboy combined caught 15 passes.
Back in June the preview's read was that Lamb's target volume would hold and his touchdown rate was the part to doubt. His first three games had eight, nine and eight targets. Sunday more than doubled the most he had seen in any of them. Four games: 46 targets, 37 catches, 498 yards, four touchdowns. The volume half of the June read is holding, and then some.
