Javonte Williams scored on the opening drive against the Buccaneers and found little after: 12 carries, 45 yards, 1 touchdown, -0.1 expected points added (EPA) on the ground, -0.01 per carry. EPA is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position.
The defining run came on Dallas's first drive. No score, second and 6 at midfield, 13:19 left in the first quarter: Williams went up the middle for 21 yards to the Tampa Bay 29, +1.7 EPA and +7.5 points of win probability. Later on the drive he went in from the 1 on second down for 7-0.
Take away the 21 and he had 24 yards on 11 carries. One carry in three (33%) gained positive EPA, against 45% in Weeks 1 through 4. He converted third and 1 with 2:00 left, down 24-16, and caught 2 of 3 targets for 17 yards.
