Walker carried 23 times for 173 yards and the 60-yard touchdown on fourth and one with 12:53 left in the third quarter, converted both of Kansas City's fourth-down attempts and three of his four third-down carries, and caught three of six targets for 18 yards and a two-yard touchdown, in a 31–10 win over the Broncos.

14 to seven, Chiefs, 12 53 left in the third quarter, fourth and one at the Kansas City 40. Three linemen reported as eligible, and Kenneth Walker took it around left end for 60 yards and the touchdown. +6.6 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and 11.3 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it, the largest swing on any play in the game. It was the second fourth down the Chiefs had handed him. The first, fourth and two at the Denver 38 with 11 35 left in the first quarter, went up the middle for three and a first down on the opening touchdown drive.
The line: 23 carries, a hundred 73 yards, one rushing touchdown, eight first downs, 11 of the 23 successful, +10.1 expected points on the carries; six targets, three catches, 18 yards, one receiving touchdown, +0.6 on the targets. 14 carries before halftime for 89 yards, nine after for 84. Four runs went for 10 or more — 12, 28, 60 13 — and the other 19 gained 60. On third down he carried four times and converted three, and the three conversions were all third and one: six yards with 10 26 left in the first, four yards with 12 37 left in the half, six yards with two 16 left in the half on the drive that put Kansas City ahead for good. The 28-yarder came on that same drive, first and 10 from the Kansas City 31, pushed out at the Denver 41. The receiving touchdown was two yards on first and goal with 14 43 left in the game, up 24 to 10; the 11-yard catch on third and 10, after a fumbled snap, kept the go-ahead drive alive.
The split: Walker 23 designed runs, Emmett Johnson eight, and four Mahomes scrambles. 31 designed runs on the night, 17 before halftime and 14 after, against 18 11 pass plays. Kansas City ran for 224 yards on 35 rush plays counting the scrambles, worth +12.8 expected points, second in the league this week behind Chicago. Six targets tied Xavier Worthy for the most on the team, five of them before halftime.
Back in June the preview leaned watchlist on Walker — the eleventh back at pick 19, bought for the situation rather than the season he had just had — and named two things to watch: the touchdown rate and goal-line role in the new offense, and whether the passing-down work would materialize. Monday gave a first answer to both. Two touchdowns, one of them from the two, and every fourth-and-short and third-and-one carry the offense had to give. Six targets, tied for the team lead, on a night the preview's eight percent target share would have predicted two. One game does not make a role, and a 60-yard run is one carry. But the two fourth downs are a coaching decision, and those tend to repeat. The Chiefs are home to the Colts on Sunday night, the twentieth.
