Rhamondre Stevenson moved the chains on short yardage against the Jets and found little room otherwise: 14 carries, 36 yards, -1.9 expected points added (EPA). EPA is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position. Four of his 14 carries (29%) gained positive EPA.

The one that mattered came up 7-3 in the second quarter. Fourth and 1 at the New England 48, 5:15 left: he ran left tackle for 2 yards to midfield, +2.1 EPA and +4.1 points of win probability. On the same drive he converted third and 2 with a 12-yard run up the middle to the Jets 30, +1.2 EPA, and New England kicked a field goal for 10-3.

The rest was a grind. Three carries lost yards, two of them 3-yard losses. Up 23-16 with 2:00 left, third and 3 at the Jets 6, he gained 2 to the 4, and New England settled for a field goal and 26-16.

Through Week 5 he had 57 carries, 227 yards, 2 touchdowns and -2.4 EPA, with 40% of carries positive, and he scored in Weeks 4 and 5. He drew no targets after 19 through Week 5.
