Derrick Henry had his quietest day of the season against the Bengals: 17 carries for 45 yards and -6.0 expected points added (EPA), plus 1 catch on 2 targets for 4 yards, in a 35-13 loss at home. EPA is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position. Only 2 of his 17 carries gained positive EPA.

The carries that cost the most came in short yardage. Up 7-0 early in the second quarter, second and 1 at the Cincinnati 11, he was stopped for no gain up the middle, and Bryan Cook stopped him for no gain again on third and 1. A false start followed, and Baltimore settled for a 34-yard field goal. Up 13-7 in the third, second and 7 at his own 29, Jordan Battle dropped him for a loss of 4, -1.4 EPA, and the drive ended in a three-and-out. His best run came down 14-13 late in the third: first and 10 at the Cincinnati 33, 9 yards around left end, +0.9 EPA, on the drive that ended on downs at the 12.

It extended a slide. The 45 yards were his fewest this season, after 58 against Cleveland in Week 6. Through Week 6 he had 130 carries for 534 yards, 7 touchdowns and -14.0 EPA, -0.11 a carry with 42% of carries positive; here it was -0.35 a carry and 12%.
