19 to 17, Raiders, three 35 left in the game, third and five at the Kansas City 40. Patrick Mahomes threw deep left for Tyquan Thornton, 31 yards in the air, and Thornton got to the Las Vegas five, 55 yards; a Raiders unnecessary-roughness penalty put the ball at the two. +5.2 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and 35 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it, the largest swing of the game. Kenneth Walker scored on the next snap.
The line: 15 of 30, 225 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions, two sacks, +2.7 expected points on 32 pass plays. 10 of 18 for a hundred 39 before halftime, five of 12 for 86 after. Three throws carried the day: 41 yards to Xavier Worthy on third and 10 from the Las Vegas 48 in the first quarter, down seven; 42 to Thornton on first and 10 at the Las Vegas 47 with a minute 50 left in the half; and the 55. Those three were a hundred 38 of his yards. The touchdowns were both to Thornton, two yards on third and two at the end of the Worthy drive, and eight yards on second and eight, two snaps after Walker's 76-yard run. Eight throws went 20 or more yards in the air and three were caught. On third down he threw 11 times and moved the chains four. The sacks: on second and three at the Las Vegas three with a minute 36 left in the half, a seven-yard loss before a field goal, and on second and 10 in the third quarter, before a punt. Two carries, a one-yard scramble and a kneel-down.
Thornton had eight of the 27 throws credited to a receiver, Worthy seven, Travis Kelce four, Noah Gray three.
Back in June the preview leaned watchlist on Mahomes, and named the knee, meaning the mobility, and the accuracy as the things to watch. Sunday was 50 percent, his lowest completion rate of the four games, and one scramble. Four games: 82 of a hundred 28, 64 percent, 1037 yards, nine touchdowns, two interceptions. After three weeks moving one direction, the accuracy took a step back.
