Catchable throw rate
A catchable throw is a pass the intended receiver could reasonably have caught, judged by a charter watching the play, whether he caught it or not. Catchable throw rate is the share of a quarterback's pass attempts that FTN's charters marked as catchable.
FTN's charters judge every pass attempt: could the target have caught it? A dropped ball still counts as catchable, and a completion on an improbable diving grab may not. The rate divides the catchable attempts by all of a passer's charted attempts — attempts rather than dropbacks, because a sack or a scramble has no ball to judge.

Why it matters
Completion percentage blames the quarterback for his receivers' drops and credits him for their acrobatics. Catchable throw rate takes the receiver out, so it is closer to a measure of ball placement, and it is the same judgment the drop rate board uses from the other end of the throw.
The counter
Throwaways are attempts and are never catchable, so a passer who throws the ball away often ranks lower here than his accuracy alone would place him. Read the throwaway rate beside it before calling a passer inaccurate.
